Blirt
Blirt, based in New York, is the brainchild of actress Kathleen Tracy, physician Adam Keene, and artist Kat Saito.
Asking themselves: Why did all children's organic clothing have to have earthy themes and colors? Why did all "modern" kid's tees have to include skeletons or a rock n' roll theme. Why did all "smart" tee's for kids have to feature the saccharine or the banal; they started on a mission to introduce kids to the playfulness of the English language through clever, earth-friendly design.
The concept of Blirt is to visually represent figures of speech that embody strong and unique character traits of kids. Featuring Tokyo-born Mr. Saito silk-screened artworks and accompanied by a booklet that playfully provides definitions and derivations of the figures of speech on the shirts, kids (and adults!) love them.
All Blirt products are hand silk-screened in Brooklyn, New York and are made of 100% certified organic cotton, that is custom made and dyed for Blirt using non-toxic dyes. The silk screening is water-based (a more environmentally friendly process); and all garments are manufactured in India by a company that adheres to international standards of fair wages and work benefits and who employ absolutely no child labor.
